“He’s stepped up” – Ex-Premier League striker raves about West Ham’s 25-cap international

|

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent admitted that he was astounded by West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek by his performance during the Hammers’ 3-1 win over Watford.

The victory helped David Moyes’ side massively move closer to Premier League survival as they shifted themselves to 15th in the standings, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Goals from Michail Antonio, Declan Rice and Soucek himself ensured that West Ham clinched all three points from the encounter at the London Stadium.

Speaking to Football Insider, Bent was blown away by Soucek’s outing and was impressed with the way he has stepped up for the Irons when they have needed him most.

Does Tomas Soucek deserve to be Hammer of the Year?

Yes

No

“What a header that was, what a header, what an absolutely unbelievable header. He’s done so well, Soucek, so well.”, he said.

“He’s scored big goals for them, massive, massive, massive goals for them and he’s another one I’d sign up quickly because he has done so well. Important goals when they needed him.

“He stepped up, he’s been unlucky in certain situations as well because there’s been goals that have been ruled out, that have been taken off him. He’s been fantastic and these players have stepped up when they really needed to.”

Soucek scored his third goal of the 2019/20 campaign from 11 appearances for Moyes’ side, with all of his strikes coming after the temporary suspension of the season, as per TransferMarkt.

Soucek is currently on loan from his homeland side Slavia Prague, with his contract due to come to an end in East London on 31st July.

The board would be crazy to let Soucek leave the club without considering signing him permanently. Bent is right. The 25-cap international has certainly made the difference and has helped his side secure crucial results in the big games.
