Former Hammer Encounters Hard Times

|

During quiet times, when the wife and kids are out, I’ve often drifted into my own little world.

On one such dalliance, I had this amusing thought of what life, off the pitch, would be like for a professional footballer in the modern era.

I imagined standing in the queue, at a cash-point, peering over the shoulder of a professional footballer and stealing a glance at his bank statement after he’d hit the balance button.

I was musing as to just how much ready-cash they have available!

Well, it seems that not all of today’s footballers are rolling in cash.

According to the popular tabloid publication, the Sun, Carlton Cole’s bank balance doesn’t make for particularly good reading.

Our source is implying that the 34-year-old striker has been declared bankrupt despite, at some point in his career, earning something in the region of £30,000 a week.

Which just goes to show it’s not how much you earn in the modern age but how you take care of it.

It is all too easy to increase your style of living to match your income but when that income dries up it is a very slippery slope.

Nevertheless, we hope that Carlton gets back on his feet soon.
