Calum Davenport has fractured a bone in his neck and remains in hospital after returning from a very brief loan spell at Watford.
Davenport was signed by Aidy Boothroyd on the 18th January 2008, just a couple of days ago, and made his debut on the 19th to be taken off against Charlton suffering a fractured neck bone.
The former Spurs and Coventry defender has returned to West Ham to remain under medical supervision until his condition improves.
Initially signed as a back up player for Danny Shittu with a view to a permanent deal, this was just the kind of kick-start to his career the 25-year-old was looking for after a lack of opportunities at Upton Park.
Hornets manager Boothroyd added:
‘Calum heard a crack in his neck and he lost the sensation in his fingers.
‘When it is a neck injury you have to get him off the pitch straight away and we hope it is not too bad.’
