With Winston Reid side-lined through injury, James Collins has stepped into the heart of the defence to partner Jose Fonte.

The Welshman, approaching the veteran stage of his career, has always been somebody that gives you 100% and always gives the impression that he cares for the club.

Last week, when West Ham United beat Swansea 1-0 to end that run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, Collins, upon hearing the final whistle, fell to his knees in relief.

Yesterday, up at the Stadium of Light, Collins must have thought he`d netted the winner when he headed home that corner from Robert Snodgrass, but it wasn`t to be as the Hammers conceded a ninetieth minute equaliser.

After the game, Collins had a few words for the media about the game with the Welsh defender quoted as having remarked,

‘We came looking for the three points and were pretty comfortable, but to go in front and concede we were disappointed.

‘We invited a bit too much pressure on ourselves. We’re bitterly disappointed. Any late goal is frustrating.’

It is but with the season approaching its end it`s time to look to the next match rather than linger on what might have been.
