Club’s pursuit of 32-goal star could help make West Ham’s chase for prolific ace easier – Opinion

Celta de Vigo are thought to be in the race to sign Robert Skov this summer and that could spell encouraging news for West Ham United and their pursuit of Maxi Gomez.

According to Spanish media publication El Desmarque, the La Liga outfit are believed to be ready to compete with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the Copenhagen star.

The Denmark Under-21 international has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in European football at the moment after putting together a truly remarkable campaign for his current club, especially considering that he is not a forward.

The Copenhagen winger managed to net an incredible 32 goals and provide his team-mates with ten assists in his 48 appearances across all competitions last season (Transfermarkt).

So, how does this help us with our pursuit of Maxi Gomez? Well, Skov has shown that despite not being a traditional centre-forward, he can still find the back of the net on a regular basis and could easily be the man the Spanish outfit see as the individual to replace their Uruguayan superstar – a man who has netted 31 goals in his 71 appearances for the Galician outfit (Transfermarkt).

He is expected to cost Celta a fee higher than €12million (£10.7m), so the La Liga side may have to look at making funds available by selling some of their own stars to try and sign the Denmark ace.

Should they want to have any chance of signing Skov, they may have to act quickly with all the rumoured interest being shown in him. There is every chance his performances for his nation’s Under-21 European Championship campaign may have taken his stock up another level and that could put any possible deal out of reach.

Thus, that could force them into accepting an offer from West Ham at a price lower than what they are holding out for, meaning we may finally be able to welcome our long-term target to the London Stadium this summer.

Hopefully, that is a situation that we will see happen in the coming weeks.
