West Ham’s miserable start to the new season continued with another defeat, this time at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.

Entering the fixture, Manuel Pellegrini had seen his side lose their opening two games, against Liverpool (a) and Bournemouth (h), the pressure was on the Chilean to get something from this fixture.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be with the Hammers slipping to a 3-1 defeat.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, there were signs that things are improving and when Marko Arnautovic put West Ham ahead, finishing off a fine move involving Felipe Anderson, it looked as if a rare win against Arsenal was on the cards.

Unfortunately, the Hammers lead was to last just five minutes with Nacho Monreal putting the Gunners level slamming the ball into the net after a cross from Hector Bellerin deflected off Alex Iwobi straight to him.

All square at half-time, the Hammers did show signs of edging ahead again but were, instead, to fall behind in the 70th minute when Issa Diop, making his Hammers debut, saw a volley from Alexandre Lacazette deflect off him and into the net.

The game was wrapped up in stoppage time when Bellerin found Lacazette with a pass and the striker coolly lifted his effort over Fabianski.

Next up for West Ham, in the Premier League, is a home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, will that game see the Hammers finally get a league win?
