£4M forward could prove to be the bargain of the season

|

Over the course of the summer transfer window, we have spent a substantial amount of money on new arrivals, and while many reputable players have made a move to the London Stadium, Lucas Perez has the potential to become the ultimate bargain buy.

Given the sheer number of signings that we completed over the course of the summer, it’s natural that players take time to acclimatise and adapt to new surroundings, and while Lucas Perez has previously played in the Premier League with Arsenal, he wasn’t given an abundance of opportunities to demonstrate his worth with the North London side. He joined the club for a reported fee of £4M.

In 21 appearances for the Gunners, the Spaniard amassed a decent total of seven goals. In fact, he only made 11 appearances for Arsenal in the league, which was hardly sufficient to produce a purposeful impact for the club. While Perez faces a similar degree of competition with us, his versatility and adaptability mean that he could prove to be an excellent player for Manuel Pellegrini.

The 29-year-old is capable of operating in any attacking position across the forward line, and he also flaunts a decent goal-scoring record throughout his club career. In 279 games, he has amassed a total of 92 goals – almost an average of a goal every three appearances.

In addition to his decent goal-scoring record, he’s regarded for his tremendous threat on the counter-attack, and his ability to retain possession when required. Atypical of a Spanish player, Perez exhibits desirable passing qualities, most notably his crossing and through ball ability.

While Manuel Pellegrini continues to ponder over his best eleven, in the form of Perez, we have a very dependable player who is capable of making positive and valuable contributions.  The Spaniard totalled eight league goals last season, a similar total in our iconic colours would represent decent business for the club.
