It’s in times like these when your side has lost their opening four games and has a rocky defence, that you yearn for the likes of James Collins.

Now James will admit that he’s not the best defender in the world but, at times like this, you don’t need to be.

Released back in May, there was speculation doing the rounds that West Ham might be ready to give the veteran Welshman a contract.

However, that speculation was misplaced and was based purely on the fact James was training with the Hammers squad to merely keep fit whilst he waits for a suitable contract offer.

Well, according to the local news vehicle, eadt.co.uk, Collins is in talks to sign for the Championship club, Ipswich Town.

Here at Vital West Ham, like we said Collins might not be the best defender in the world, but the Welshman has the grit and courage you need to drag the team out of the doldrums it currently finds itself in.

Do you agree with the above or have we gauged it wrong?

  • Whatever our problems a no pace, mid thirties has been, is not the answer!
Don’t get me wrong, ginge was a great servant but his time has passed!

  • I would give him a short term contract or perhaps pay as you play. The one thing he does have is passion for the club and a solid determination. Could do well with Diop and Balbuena.
