The Hammers crashed out of the FA Cup this afternoon, against the League One side Wigan.

Sadly, with a squad stretched to its limits, it probably wasn`t the shock it should have been to the travelling Hammers support, especially after the poor performances given in the previous round, against Shrewsbury.

But, what made it harder to bear today was the fact that in ninety-minutes of football, West Ham United couldn`t muster a single shot on target.

To make it worse, four minutes into the second half West Ham were reduced to ten-men when Arthur Masuaku was sent off for the cowardly crime of spitting at the Wigan midfielder, Nick Powell.

By that time though, the Hammers were already 1-0 down, trailing to a goal in the seventh minute by Will Grigg. With the Northern Irish striker scoring with a towering header from a cross from Nathan Byrne.

The Hammers fate was sealed in the sixty-second minute when Grigg scored from the penalty spot.

Matters could have been worse, but a goal from Cheyenne Dunkley, minutes after Griggs opener, was ruled out by the officials.

With the Hammers already suffering from a lengthy injury list, David Moyes would have been disappointed to lose Pedro Obiang, with a knee injury, in the first half.

A hugely disappointing day, I think I need a stiff drink!
