West Ham’s rumoured interest in star could be bad news for Pellegrini favourite – opinion

|

West Ham United have been linked with a move for FC Copenhagen star Robert Skov by Sky Sports, but the Hammers’ interest could spell bad news for a Manuel Pellegrini favourite.

The report linking in the Hammers with the 6-foot machine focused on Tottenham’s interest in the winger although it is noted that we, along with Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, are also in the hunt.

So far this season, Skov has been in terrific form in the Superligaen with 22 goals and six assists in 24 games, and has been impressive on the continent scoring, the winner at Bordeaux in the Europa League.

The 22-year-old is relatively inexperienced at a higher level it has to be said, though, and the current campaign has been his standout best of his career to date – previously, Skov’s highest return in front of goal came in the 2016/17 season when he found the net on six occasions.

Sky Sports do not offer any suggestion on a transfer fee that Copenhagen may request for the £4.5million rated winger (per Transfermarkt), but if our interest is the leading contender for his signature, it could spell bad news for Andriy Yarmolenko less than a year after he moved to East London.

The former Borussia Dortmund man was one of the players brought to the club by Pellegrini, and just as he appeared to find his feet in the Premier League lost his place in the side through a devastating season-ending injury.

It would be a brutal call for the club to make, forcing the 29-year-old out the door without truly seeing what he can offer, but our interest in Skov could suggest the club are at least being proactive in case the 80-cap Ukraine international returns a step off the pace.
