West Ham’s pursuit of long-term target has been complicated further as reports start to become conflicting – Opinion

It is always rather difficult to know what to think when reports continue to say different things regarding a player and a potential move – just take a look at West Ham United’s continued pursuit of Maxi Gomez.

Sky Sports reported over the weekend that we had a bid of £29million plus potential add-ons for the Uruguayan forward accepted, however, one media outlet in Spain appears to state that that situation is far from the truth.

Faro de Vigo – the local media outlet for the Galicia-based outfit – have claimed that bid has been rejected and have also suggested that Valencia could be in the driving seat for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer.

Celta de Vigo continue to hold negotiations with Los Che regarding a deal for their star striker as they want to bring Santi Mina back to the club where it all started for him, however, negotiations apparently have hit a stumbling block despite both sides willing to broker a deal.

If the information produced by the Spanish media outlet is anything to go by, we could face losing out on the South American forward this summer.

With the Copa America underway, it is unlikely a deal regarding Gomez will be completed until the end of Uruguay’s tournament and if they get all the way to the final, that means one such agreement will not be made until around the middle of July with the final being played on the 7th.

A move to Valencia would offer him a change of Spanish scenery and Champions League football next season, however, hopefully, the allure of playing Premier League football will be too hard for Gomez to turn down if he has to make a choice this summer.
