West Ham’s latest target is good enough to outshine Felipe Anderson if he signs – opinion

West Ham have signed some incredible players over the last year or two, with big names like Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere moving to the London Stadium. The former, in particular, has had a fantastic first season in England, having impressed as a part of a potent West Ham attack all season long.

However, West Ham’s latest target has all the tools to perform even better than Anderson has, and together, they could be deadly. According to the Mirror, Celta Vigo man Maxi Gomez is back on the Hammers’ transfer list, and after the club failed to get a new deal done in January, maybe now is the time to get it over the line.

After all, Gomez provides goals – and that’s what West Ham lack. Gomez has bagged 9 goals so far this term, and whilst he hasn’t scored since January, it can’t be a coincidence that his form dipped after the Hammers failed to secureĀ a deal for him.

On his day, he’s a simply unplayable attacker that possesses everything. With a fantastic shot and a towering 6ft1 frame, he’s capable both facing goal and with his back to goal, and if he’s not scoring goals, he’s setting them up – as his 5 league assists can attest to.

At 23-years-old, too, Gomez isn’t just a player for the present. Whilst Marko Arnautovic is nearly 30-years-old and thus beginning to move past his prime, Gomez is still a young, developing player, and the fact that he’s already made such an impact is a testament to his quality.

Under Manuel Pellegrini, his development would only continue, and that’s a mouthwatering thought. He looks like a tremendous player, and can you imagine him alongside Anderson? That would be a deadly combination. Their link-up play with Anderson’s crosses and Gomez’s headers would be brilliant.
