West Ham would bag ideal summer addition with shrewd move for 2-time PL winner – opinion

West Ham have had a lot of success with their policy of moving for experienced players. When utilised, of course alongside a core group of younger players, they can offer the guidance and leadership that would otherwise be lacking.

It would make sense, then, for the Hammers to continue that approach, and apparently, they are planning to. According to the Mirror, Chelsea’s Gary Cahill could end up at West Ham this summer, with Manuel Pellegrini’s men keen on the veteran Englishman.

With 2 Premier League trophies in his locker, few others in England can come close to the number of trophies that he’s won over the years, and that mentality could be crucial as West Ham seek to increase their position in the English top flight.

He’s hardly been used at Chelsea this season, and so you’d expect him not to be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, meaning that the Hammers could bring him in on a free – and you can’t beat that.

In terms of talent, Cahill is still the same player that he was a few years go, albeit with a little bit less consistency. He’s strong in the air, capable in the tackle, he’s quick and mobile and he’s also solid with the ball at his feet.

He’s been criminally underrated over the years, but clearly not at West Ham. The Hammers recognise what he can bring to the team, and if they’re able to make a deal happen, it could prove to be their best in a while. He’d make our defence so much stronger.
