West Ham – Where`s the Logic?

Ever since England won the World Cup in 1966 there has been this bond between West Ham United and England.

The fact that we provided the spine of that 1966 England team has always been reason to chirp that we won the World Cup for England, especially as Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Bobby Moore played such a prominent part in the victory.

As South Africa 2010 approaches there`s a fair chance that West Ham could be well represented again.

Robert Green, barring committing a series of bloopers is likely to be given the nod.

Carlton Cole, if he continues to improve like he has will also get the nod plus there is also a fair chance that several players who have experienced life in the West Ham set-up may also get the opportunity to do us proud – Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson and Frank Lumplard to name but four. (I offer apologies to anyone I may have omitted)

Therefore, there is a lot to look forward to next summer, the idling away of time will be replaced by watching the three lions attempt to make history, so why, at the moment, does the mere mention of England bring a grimace to my face.

I`ll tell you why shall I?

It`s because I know they are essential, but I can`t abide by these friendly matches being held that disrupt our Premier League campaign, the stop-start nature of it all drives me up the wall but things are about to get worse, read on???.

Last season there was uproar when Richard Scudamore (I`m sure he was a jockey?) tried to pawn off on us the idea of a thirty-ninth game in the Premier League calendar, a game that would be foisted on the highest international bidders.

Thankfully, it was shouted down, it hasn`t happened (yet) but something else has. Those that perceive to run our fantastic game have set up a friendly against Brazil, on November 14th. Nothing too controversial there you might say, but, read on???..

This friendly is going to be played in Qatar, thousands of miles away, can some one tell me why, apart from the obvious cash influence?

How the heck is Gianfranco Zola meant to keep completely focused on his squad when these buffoons are planning a trek around the globe?
