West Ham vs Wolves: A must-win fixture

|

As has been widely publicised, we’ve endured a difficult start to the new Premier League campaign. Nonetheless, our second-round Carabao Cup triumph against Wimbledon should serve as a confidence booster for the squad. And, the importance of our next league fixture against Wolves cannot be sufficiently stressed.

The excitement that ensued from Manuel Pellegrini’s appointment and the plethora of signings that we completed during the summer transfer window has been thwarted somewhat by our difficult start to the new season. Indeed, three successive league defeats were certainly not in the script as we embark on a new era under the coveted guidance of Manuel Pellegrini.

That said, last night’s triumph against Wimbledon in the cup should relive the squad of the pressure of trying to win a game, and hopefully, they’ll be able to play with greater freedom against Wolves on Saturday.

Our next league opponents have enjoyed a commendable start to their return to the top flight of English football. They were mightily unlucky in their 2-0 defeat against Leicester City, and they produced battling performances against the champions, Manchester City and Everton to secure two draws.

Accordingly, we must prepare ourselves for what will be a testing challenge. During their recent revival, and following their promotion to the Premier League, Wolves have received appraisal for their expansive style of play that has led to favourable results on the pitch.

Personally, I feel that our quality outweighs that of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, and we should have enough to secure our first league victory of the season. While considering that we face the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Everton in September, a win would be of incontestable significance to the team as we look to assemble much-needed confidence.

As the squad continues to familiarise itself with the demands and expectations of Manuel Pellegrini’s playing style, I’m confident that we can succeed and progress from strength to strength.
