Sometimes the best transfer news is the kind that takes you by surprise.
Mind you, that wouldn’t be hard this week as I attempt to shake off a virus that has laid me low.
This morning, returning to the digital world, I discovered that the Hammers had signed a new central defender.
But this wasn’t just any signing was it!
West Ham, showing how they intend to make a statement this summer, signed Issa Diop for a club record transfer fee of £22 million, from the French club Toulouse, on a five-year deal.
Diop, just 21-years-of-age, has made 95 appearances for Toulouse and is a French U21 international.
Highly rated, Diop arrives at West Ham keen to make an impression with the news source, the BBC, carrying some quotes from the man himself:
“I am a very ambitious player and West Ham is a very ambitious club, as we’ve seen with the appointment of the new coach.
“I hope to help the team win lots of games. I am very happy to sign for such a historic, English club, and I hope to show my best here.”
Diop, with his youthful freshness could be just the kind of player we need. Pellegrini has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to players and we feel he wouldn’t have authorised the signing if he didn’t feel Diop can make a huge impression in the Premier League. Sure, Diop may take time to adapt to a new style of football but, here at Vital West Ham, we reckon this deal could be one of the best of the summer.
