West Ham set to pounce as Husillos targets London rival’s star man – report

|

West Ham have been tipped by the South London Press as having eyes on David Martin, and Mario Husillos supposedly looks set to sign the Millwall goalkeeper.

Martin featured in ten of the Lions’ Championship fixtures in the season just gone, as Neil Haris led the Den natives to a 21st place finish and beat the drop by four points.

From his rare outings, the Millwall star conceded nine goals, but also kept four clean sheets, which included holding Play-Off Semi-Finalists West Bromwich Albion at bay. Martin additionally recorded 25 saves and played 248 passes, of which only 90 found a teammate.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the Den this summer, however, and it is thought we have made advances to bring the London-born shot-stopper to Stratford to act as our third-choice option next term.

Millwall have also offered the £225,000-rated former England youth international a new contract, as they would otherwise be chasing wholesale changes between the sticks after releasing Jordan Archer and Ben Amos returned to parent side Bolton Wanderers.

If Martin were to move from one East London side to another, we would likely still be in the market for a goalkeeper after releasing Adrian after six years of service.
