West Ham must see £51m-rated man’s tetchy situation as chance to pounce – opinion

AC Milan’s Franck Kessie is a reported target for West Ham in the summer, and if we have any hopes of landing the midfielder, we must strike now while the Ivorian’s situation at the San Siro may be under consideration.

Calciomercato are now reporting that the Gennaro Gattuso is considering dropping the 22-year-old from his matchday squad after he was involved in a sideline flair-up with teammate Lucas Biglia during the Milan Derby.

The Argentine midfielder has been fined for his part, but Kessie’s situation is thought to stretch beyond a heavy fine due to his worsening relationship with Gattuso and Andrea Conti, who had replaced him in the 69th minute.

If the relationship between the midfielder and the Italian outfit’s manager has deteriorated as much as it seems, we could offer the sleeping giants of Serie A an out on their obligation to buy.

They would likely still ask for more than the €24million (£20.5m) they are set to have to offer Atalanta in the summer, but it could now be less than the €60million (£51m) they were expected to demand if we had made advancements in our interest before.

Kessie would be sure to improve the midfield in East London if he were to join, and could become the future core of Manuel Pellegrini’s unit alongside Declan Rice.

The Milan Derby on Sunday may have ended on a sour note for the 27-cap international, but it also marked his 33rd game of the season and his 26th start in the Serie A – accounting for 93% of AC’s league games.
