West Ham may have found solution to their left back problem this summer

|

West Ham are interested in signing Fenerbahçe left back Hasan Ali Kaldırım according to BBC Sport.

29-year-old Kaldırım, who is also the club’s captain would only cost five million euros due to his release clause, making him a cheap and effective solution to one of West Ham’s biggest problem areas.

Neither Aaron Cresswell or Arthur Masuaku were able to secure their place in the Hammers’ starting line up, with the former starting 18 league games and the latter getting the nod 19 times.

That the pair kept being swapped around is because neither were able to consistently perform to a level which warranted being considered a certain starter.

There have been concerns that Masuaku can be a liability at the back, with defensive contributions being one of his weaknesses.

Cresswell has struggled to reach the level he achieved during his early West Ham days since being injured during preseason in 2016, as during his first two seasons he was an ever-present whenever available and even earned an England call up, getting four assists in each of his first two West Ham campaigns, though he managed just one in 2018/19 – his worst return since breaking through at Ipswich Town.

Kaldırım has 30 international caps for Turkey and a wealth of experience in the Europa League, so has the pedigree to become the regular figure West Ham have been missing at left back should they sign him.
