West Ham make surprising move for new striker target – report

|

Having missed out on Maxi Gómez, West Ham have made a loan offer to Juventus for Gonzalo Higuaín, who spent time on loan with Chelsea last season, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

With West Ham having already let Marko Arnautović, Andy Carroll and Lucas Pérez go this summer, the club is in desperate need of bringing in more strikers.

This point was accentuated as Javier Hernández was the only out and out striker included in the Hammers’ squad for the Premier League Asian Trophy.

Higuaín scored five goals in 13 league starts and one substitute appearance with Chelsea, though he was still seen as underwhelming, with three of those coming against relegated teams, while he didn’t get a single goal against a side who finished in the top 10.

He has now returned to Juventus, though it could be relatively soon that he leaves, with AS Roma showing interest alongside the Hammers.

Any deal that is made could include an option to buy clause, which would turn into an obligation if certain terms – which are unnamed as of yet – are met, with Juventus reportedly wanting the price to be set at €40million.

There are a number of other striker targets for West Ham, so it is uncertain how high Higuaín places on the target list at this time.
