West Ham Looking To Unload Classy Youngster Who Looked Destined For The Top

|

Every so often a player arrives on the scene who looks destined for a long, illustrious and successful career with the club.

Reece Oxford was one such player.

When Oxford made his debut for West Ham at the tender age of sixteen, it looked as if yet another star in the making had come through our famed youth set-up.

Oxford’s versatility, with the youngster being able to play as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, gave him that vital edge over so many others hoping to make a career at a top-flight club.

But, wind the clock on a few years, the scenario has changed dramatically.

Instead of being a mainstay of the Hammers side, Oxford now finds himself in a position where the club are willing to sell him.

The respected news source, Sky Sports, is championing the inference that the club will sell Oxford, now 19-years-of-age, if they receive an offer in the region of £10 million.

After spending big, bringing in (so far) seven signings this summer, it is perhaps inevitable that the club will be looking to recoup some cash and when you consider Oxford spent last season out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, his chances of earning a place in the West Ham first team, this coming season, look very limited.

With a price tag of £10 million on his head, it’ll be interesting to see which clubs show an interest in a player we’d have put our mortgage on becoming a mainstay of the West Ham side when he produced a man-of-the-match performance in that opening fixture of the season, at Arsenal, not that long ago.
