Sunday is, it has to be said, my favourite day for transfer speculation.

It’s almost as if the journalists go into overdrive to fill their column inches.

One piece of speculation that grabbed my eye this morning related to the Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

According to the red-top publication, the Mirror, Wilhere, still only 26-years-of-age, is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer. Seemingly, the new Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, has no plans to use the player in a key role.

Continuing on the theme, another red-top publication, the Sun on Sunday, suggests that Arsenal’s contract offer, to Wilshere, is around the £100,000 a week mark, a drop of 20%, whilst also inferring that West Ham are confident of reaching a deal with the former England international by offering him £130,000 a week.

Trawling through numerous social media posts, it appears that the Hammers support are, generally in favour of a move for the player, with a typical posting reading:

However, some Hammers supporters are aware of Wilshere’s past injury record and feel that any signing should include a compromise:

Here a Vital West Ham, we’re not sure that Wilshere would agree to that one.

But, the last word from the social media goes to an Arsenal fan who has commented:

From an editorial point of view, I’d support a move for Wilshere. Although, in the past he has struggled with injuries, the last two seasons, with one of them being spent at Bournemouth before he returned to Arsenal, have seen the midfielder play more often. His skills, in the middle of the park, I feel, would be hugely beneficial to the side.

But, what’s your opinion on the Hammers making a move for Jack Wilshere?

  • I think Wilshere would be a great signing especially on a free. So long as he stays fit. The fact that he is a hammer
You know his heart will be in the right place and I’m sure he will give his all. This signing coupled with names like Anderson, Pastore, Diop and Mawson etc and we will be looking a very decent side. Wouldn’t mind another striker maybe Balotelli on a free. COYI !

  • I am.a arsenal fan and I am a true supporter of our Jack.and am devastated.with the news that Jack may leave. I feel so sad that now arsene’s gone and this new bloke has come in that arsenal are trying to force him out. They said they want him to stay and he is desperate to stay but held off signing until he had assurances that he would play and have a key hole in the team but if reports are to be believed he has been told different. There is always someone who pays when a new boss comes in and sadly it seems to be Jack. I hope something can be sorted out and Jack stays

  • do not forget bournemouth did better while jack was injured, than when he was fit and playing. there are no guarantees hes going to fit in with the rest of the team. it could be a costly gamble.

  • Huh? There are no guarantees Fabiniski, Anderson, Pastore, etc will fit in with the rest of the team – shall we not bother signing anyone?

Its a free and he should be first central midfielder on the England team sheet – no brainer really.

  • Mario needed time to adjust to uk football and any new imports will probably be the same. At least Wilshire can go straight into the side and hopefully fulfil his potential at last.
Still hope we sign Mario back from inter milan.
