West Ham land £60million payday but funds not expected to boost Pellegrini’s budget – report

|

West Ham have reportedly agreed a deal with shirt sponsor Betway that will see the Irons bank £60million. However, Manuel Pellegrini is unlikely to see much of a difference in this year’s transfer budget, according to Football.London.

They are reporting that the board has agreed a second extension of Betway’s sponsorship deal, which is now thought to be the biggest commercial agreement outside of the Premier League’s top six.

When Betway first joined forces with the Hammers in 2015, the deal was thought to be worth £20million over three-and-a-half years, before a slight modification to the terms in 2016 saw the figure rise marginally.

Now, as part of the biggest sponsorship agreement in the club’s history, Betway have agreed to pay us around £10million-a-year over the next six years, narrowly eclipsing the £9.8m Sportpesa pay Everton.

Unfortunately, though, Football.London do not expect the increase in funds will make much of a difference to the club’s spending this summer or the next, unlike teams like Manchester United – who rake in a staggering £122million-a-year through their deals with kit manufacturer Adidas and shirt sponsor Chevrolet.

That may not necessarily be the case, however, as the new terms are expected to add £7million a year to our accounts, which is the equivalent of Javier Hernandez’s yearly salary. So with the new deal in place, Director of Football Mario Husillos should have a slightly greater pulling power to attract our top targets.
