It’s not a common occurrence for West Ham United to be linked with acquiring a player who is currently on the books of the Catalan giants, Barcelona.

But that is exactly the case today.

Now whilst we may dream of the likes of Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez pulling on the famous claret and blue shirt of our esteemed club, we’re realistic to accept it will always remain a pipe-dream.

But, according to the Spanish news source, Sport, the Hammers are being linked with Andre Gomes.

Andre Gomes is a midfielder, born in Portugal, who could well be a realistic Hammers target.

The 24-year-old isn’t a regular in the Barcelona starting eleven and perhaps might be tempted by a move to a club whereby he gets regular football.

However, our referenced source also points out that West Ham United have rivals for the signature of the player, in the form of Tottenham Hotspur.

Unfortunately, common sense tells us that our North London rivals may have the edge when it comes to completing a deal, being able to offer Andre Gomes the chance to play Champions League football.

But, football has a habit of springing the odd surprise or two, could Andre Gomes signing for West Ham be one such surprise?
