West Ham fans cannot buy into shock transfer links for 9-goal wonderkid – opinion

|

West Ham United were regularly hitting the headlines in the winter market with reports suggesting the Irons would target Maxi Gomez among others, and now find themselves splurged across Calciomercato with links to Joao Felix.

The Benfica wonderkid is one of the world’s top emerging talents right now and has nine goals to his name in the Liga NOS after 16 games, but the Hammers being linked with his services makes very little sense.

Clubs around Europe are already understood to be chasing his signature when the curtain falls on the current campaign, with reports offering transfer fees in excess of £100million to get the deal done.

There is next to no way West Ham would be able to compete for a transfer at that level, and with the club’s being suggested – your Manchester United’s, Juventus’, Real Madrid’s, PSG’s and Bayern Munich’s are all in the hunt.

Maybe, however, we can harbour a little bit of hope on the matter as Calciomercato have gone against the grain in their report, which links us with a move, as the Italian publication have penned claims that the Old Lady stand a strong chance of signing Felix for a much more attainable €30-40million (£25.8-34.4m).

That comes despite the 10-cap Portugal U21 international’s contract at the Futebol Campus running until 2023 and including a €120m (£103m) release clause that Benfica wish to increase to €200m (£171m).
