West Ham expected to exercise contract option despite injury worries – report

|

Samir Nasri’s stay in East London for a further year could soon be confirmed, as Claret and Hugh expects West Ham to exercise their contract extension option.

The club added an extension clause to his current deal, as they only saw fit to offer the 41-cap former France international a contract until the summer after he impressed when at Rush Green on trial.

Their choice to now activate the clause comes despite the two-time Premier League winner only featuring twice since making his Hammers debut against his former side, Arsenal.

The calf strain that has kept Nasri out of action, and miss the warm-weather camp in Marbella, is not expected to derail their decision at this time, with Claret and Hugh suggesting it is Manuel Lanzini’s injury, and fears of a recurrence, that has brought about the decision.

It is also noted that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to ensure his most recent addition remains in East London for the time being, as the Chilean boss is hoping to avoid a repeat of the pre-Christmas scenes that saw him sparse of creative options.
