Soccernet, who seem to have regular contact with Upton Park these days, are saying West Ham have put in a bid for Guy Demel. The Ivory Coast right-back is said to be unwanted at Hamburg,

‘Of course it surprised and annoyed me when I was told from above that I could go. I too am very unhappy with my last season, but there are reasons for this.”

Which doesn`t feel me with huge confidence. Demel signed for Arsenal back in 2000 but never made an appearance for them. Apparently he said he was homesick before leaving for the Bundesliga.

He struggled to get into Dortmund`s first team and he only seemed settled once he arrived at Hamburg. Demel featured heavily in Hamburg`s run to the semi-final in the Europa League last season, where they were knocked out by Fulham.

In January, it was thought Demel was heading to Sunderland only for him to rule out the move. He claimed he had turned down the chance to double his wages to stay in Germany,

“I will stay with Hamburg. That is certain,” Demel told the Hamburger Morgenpost.

“What made me happy was the telephone call that I had last week with our club boss Bernd Hoffmann. He said to me that he would be pleased if I would continue to play for Hamburg when I come back from the African Cup of Nations.”

Which just goes to show how quickly things can change. At 29, I`d have to assume he`d find a move to London easier to cope with but Grant might need to give him lots of love to get the best out of him.
