West Ham defender Matthew Upson has been called into Fabio Capello’s first preliminary England squad to face Switzerland on the 6th February.

However, there is no place for either Robert Green or Dean Ashton in the 30 man squad, which also leaves out casualties Paul Robinson and David Beckham.

Italian boss Capello is to name a final squad of 23 by Saturday evening, trimming his initial squad down by seven players.

The full squad is as following:
Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Scott Carson (Aston Villa), Chris Kirkland (Wigan).

Defenders: Wayne Bridge, Ashley Cole (both Chelsea), Curtis Davies (Aston Villa), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Ledley King (Spurs), Nicky Shorey (Reading), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Micah Richards (Man City, Matthew Upson (West Ham), Jonathan Woodgate (Spurs).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Man Utd), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Jermaine Jenas (Spurs), Owen Hargreaves (Man Utd), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), David Bentley (Blackburn).

Strikers: Emile Heskey (Wigan), Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Michael Owen (Newcastle), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Peter Crouch (Liverpool).
