Transfer News: West Ham tried hard for Inter Milan star last month

|

West Ham United got what they wanted at the end of the January transfer window last month. Just a couple of weeks ago the fans had a dramatic end to the mid-season window as they brought in both Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague (BBC) and Jarrod Bowen from Hull City (BBC).

However, the Hammers could have come away from the window with more than just those two. The fans would have wanted to see a new right-back come in, or any sort of defensive reinforcements for that matter, but as it happens that got a man for the base of midfield and an attacking outlet instead.

Only time will tell whether or not the Irons can stay up, but if they don’t these reports that claim that West Ham tried hard for Inter Milan’s Roberto Gagliardini could prove to sting the fans, as the Italian midfielder could have been a very useful signing for the struggling London club.

The news broke from Calcio Mercato that the Irons wanted to sign the Italian in January, and whilst the player is currently injured, he’s still managed two goals and two assists from midfield in just 11 games in Serie A this season (Transfermarkt), and would have made a good addition at the London Stadium.

Where will we be playing next season?

Championship

The article from Calcio Mercato stated:

‘In the last January market West Ham tried seriously for Roberto Gagliardini, but Inter did not want to give up the midfielder in the middle of the season.’
