Transfer News: West Ham ready to take big loss to rid themselves of Pellegrini flop

|

David Sullivan is hardly famed for his fantastic recruitment at West Ham United, and even when he relinquished the duty of signing players, Manuel Pellegrini and his director of football Mario Husillos hardly did a great job either, and now the Irons are looking to sell one of Pellegrini’s poaches at a cut-price.

The man in question is the 30-year-old Ukranian winger Andriy Yarmolenko. The former Dynamo Kyiv man may have been a wonderful player a few years back, but injuries have caught up with the Hammers’ veteran attacker, and now it’s claimed that the Irons will let him go in summer for a fee that will be a lot less than the £18m they paid.

Despite having been at the London Stadium for 18 months now, the Hammers have only seen Yarmolenko rack up 25 appearances (Transfermarkt), and Football Insider have reported that the club are now looking at moving the winger on as soon as possible in the summer.

It looks like the Hammers, whether they stay up or go down, will be keen to move on a fair few players in the summer. This squad is quite clearly in need of an overhaul, and moving on Yarmolenko could be the catalyst to start a rebuild, with the Football Insider article claiming:

‘West Ham are planning to sell Andriy Yarmolenko this summer and will take a big hit on the transfer fee to get him off their books.’

‘The winger, 30, has been plagued by injuries since signing from Borussia Dortmund for £18million in the summer of 2018.’

Should Yarmolenko be let go?

Yes

No

‘The Londoners recognise they would not be able to come close to recouping the fee paid 18 months ago.’

‘Yarmolenko turns 31 in October and will have two years remaining on his contract at the end of the season.’

‘There is an option to extend the deal but that is fanciful at this stage, with the Ukraine international currently sidelined again through injury.’
