Transfer News: West Ham offered late loan deal for former Champions League finalist

|

At this stage of the Premier League season and considering where West Ham United are in the table, the Hammers can use all of the help they can get. David Moyes has got a real task on his hands to keep the Irons up, but it looks like he could be set to welcome in a marquee player before the end of January.

According to reports, West Ham have been offered a chance to sign a former Champions League finalist, who scored against Real Madrid on the biggest stage of them all, however, the loan deal would require the Hammers to fork out massive wages to sign this star-studded player.

The man in question, as you may have guessed, is the Belgian wide-man Yannick Carrasco. The former Atletico Madrid man was thrust into the spotlight during the 2016 Champions League final when he scored Diego Simeone’s side’s only goal in a 1-1 draw against Lo Blancos before losing on penalties.

Since then, though, Carrasco has fallen into obscurity. The Belgian is now a Chinese Super League player where he plies his trade for Rafa Benitez’s Dalian Yifang, but it’s been reported that he’s now in Belgium training alone as he waits for a deal to take him to a new club, with both West Ham and Crystal Palace being mentioned.

The article, that comes from The Daily Mail, states:

‘Crystal Palace are in talks over a January loan deal for Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco. ‘

‘Roy Hodgson is keen to bolster his side due to their mounting injury list and the former Atletico Madrid midfielder, who has also been offered to West Ham, is reportedly of interest. ‘

‘One of the big issues with a move for the Belgian is that he is earning and approximate £180,000 a week in China with Dalian Yifang, wages Palace and other suitors would likely be unwilling to match.’

‘Carrasco is reported to be currently in Belgium, training on his own as talks are ongoing in a bid to sort out his immediate club future.’

Will this transfer window be a big one?

Yes

No

‘The 26-year-old went on to make 25 appearances in the Chinese Super League last season and scored 17 goals, adding a further eight assists.’

‘His contract at the Chinese club is set to expire at the end of 2022 and so Dalian Yifang may push for a sale, rather than a loan this month, if he is to depart.’
