West Ham United are jetting off to Malaga for some warm-weather training, and fans have been having their say, given the free-weekend came about after losing in the FA Cup.
The Hammers had been on a solid run of form in December, winning five of their seven games, but hit 2019 like a brick wall despite beating Arsenal 1-0 at the London Stadium.
The Gunners clash marked the end of the good-times in Claret and Blue, as since then, back-to-back humiliating defeats were dealt by Bournemouth, AFC Wimbledon and Wolverhampton Wanderers – that is the AFC Wimbledon who are bottom of League One.
Results eventually turned around against Liverpool with a draw in a game the Hammers could have won, but as the Dons knocked West Ham out of the FA Cup, Manuel Pellegrini’s side now have a free weekend coming up, so are jetting off for some warm-weather training in Malaga.
The Chilean boss is hopeful that it will help the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Fabian Balbuena pass their respective fitness tests before his side’s next game – at home to Fulham on February 22 – but some fans are questioning if it is the right move given how it came about.
Other members of the London Stadium faithful are supporting the trip, providing that it returns the same effects as David Moyes’ venture to Miami in 2018, when West Ham returned and drew with Chelsea and Manchester United in the space of a month.
Here’s a round-up of some of the best tweets shared on the Malaga trip…
