“Bad at defending? You having a laugh?” – A lot of West Ham fans have reacted to an article by Daniel Storey on Football 365 that has revealed just how bad our defending is.
We started the season with three clean sheets in five, but since we beat Manchester United, we have conceded 13 goals and not won in six.
It is a dreadful run of form, but it has been repeated time and time again in our recent history.
Two runs in 2014 and 2016 particularly stand out.
In 2014 we won four games in a row with four clean sheets in five before losing seven of the next nine and throwing away all of the good work.
This was then repeated in 2016 after a superb unbeaten run of ten matches – we then conceded 24 goals in the next nine games.
So, these mistakes seem to be never learned from.
Will West Ham beat Spurs?
Yes, It is the perfect time to play them
No, they will have too much for us
The article believes that our defenders and other players see defending as a chore before focusing on scoring goals.
It is a recipe for disaster, and something must change, or we will lose another season to mediocrity – or possibly worse.
Certainly, these West Ham fans are devastated by Storey’s article.
See the best of the reaction below.
West Ham have been pretty bad at defending for a long time. They have repeatedly failed to address the problem.
A piece on the West Ham way, and the difference between childlike and childish. https://t.co/2A46yMzHHa pic.twitter.com/eZglxjwG14

It’s the obsession with the West Ham way – without being able to define what it is. All great teams need a balance of attack and defence

It’s ingrained in the club, our style has always been open at the back. We should focus on a quality defence next summer.

Need to spend on defence now

I said before the season started that I would have been very happy if we had just spent the money on a CDM and a Striker. We certainly need another Goalkeeper and CB minimum now
