‘That’s not even good’ – Some West Ham fans react to reported target’s latest display

With the futures of our current strikers very much up in the air, some fans have been paying close attention to the form being displayed by some of our potential targets, namely Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to us in the winter market, but our efforts came to a halt before the window slammed shut, and thoughts around the London Stadium soon turned to the summer.

Some months have passed, now, but our interest in the Uruguayan has remained strong, with the 11-cap international recently tipped to be among the prime candidates to replace Marko Arnautovic and co., along with Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.

What will boost our efforts of landing the 6 ft 1 centre-forward would be if Celta drop out of La Liga this season, as the Paysandú-born ace’s release clause would practically halve from £42million to £22m.

Gomez, however, is still doing all he can to help Vigo beat the drop, and avoid returning to the Segunda Division having been a top-tier outfit since 2012.

Their efforts to retain a place in La Liga for next term most recently saw Fran Escriba’s men face mid-table Espanyol on Wednesday night, with the chance to move four points clear of the bottom three, with four games to play.

Unfortunately for them, but thankfully for us, the Balaidos native’s trip to Barcelona did not see them capture all three points, as they left with a draw thanks to Gomez firing home his 12th goal of the season.

There was nothing spectacular about the finish, as he prodded home the ball with a controlled left-foot strike into the bottom corner, but stretching his tally for the season caught some of the London Stadium faithful’s attention…
