These West Ham United fans have been giving their verdicts on former Hammers striker Frederic Kanoute on social media.
The ex-Mali international signed for us initially on a loan basis in 1999 and formed a solid partnership alongside club legend Paolo di Canio, with manager Glenn Roeder persuading him to stay on a permanent basis following the departure of Harry Redknapp.
At 6t 4, Kanoute was a goalscoring menace and an irritant in the air, finding the net on 33 occasions in 91 appearances in all competitions.

His positional sense and his trademarks diagonal runs made him an easy target for the likes of Joe Cole and Frank Lampard, which was a contributing factor to why he had so much success in front of goal for us.
Because of this, supporters hailed Kanoute’s contributions for us and made their feelings clear. One fan said that he was “technically superb”, while another described him as a “massive underachiever”.
