‘Take a hike’, ‘Joke club’ – Many West Ham fans react to surprising transfer reports

|

Manchester United are interested in signing West Ham centre back Issa Diop, according to Sky Sports.

The proposal they are said to have made is £45 million plus a player, something many West Ham were already unimpressed with, as it is highly unlikely the Red Devils would be offering one of their better players.

While there were original doubts, this  announcement by club insider ExWHUEmployee has made it a deal which a lot of West Ham fans are outright refusing to believe:

The first thing many have taken issue with is they feel United aren’t offering enough money for the 22-year-old Frenchman.

The second and perhaps more pressing matter, is why United think that the Hammers would want Jones as part of the deal for him.

He started just 15 Premier League games last season and is an unpopular figure among many supporters, therefore he can be placed in the category of a cast off – and one who would come with high wages.

No matter what the additional fee is, most West Ham fans aren’t interested in having a player like this as part of the deal.

This is especially the case now, as early signs this transfer window point towards West Ham building a young and vibrant squad with the aim of pushing forward up the table.

To offer someone like Jones as part of the deal, for one of the most exciting and talented centre-backs in the Premier League, has been deemed as laughable.

A selection of Twitter reactions to the offer, including posts from disbelieving West Ham fans, can be seen below:
