Plenty of West Ham United fans have been hesitantly agreeing with former Hammers’ star Dmitri Payet after his recent comments about the club.
The 33-year-old was a much-loved figure at Upton Park following his £10m move from the Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in 2015, receiving the Hammer of the Year award during his first campaign.
Payet went on to score 15 goals and provide 23 assists in 60 appearances for the club. However, he left a sour taste in many of the fans after he allegedly went on strike to force his departure.
Would you welcome a Payet return?
Yes
No
Speaking to Clicanoo, Payet admitted that he did not feel any pressure at West Ham, due to the fact he did not suffer much criticism when he played poorly, which is the opposite to what he has been receiving during his second stint at Marseille.
With this in mind, supporters grudgingly accepted what Payet said and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he was “struggling to disagree with this”, while another acknowledged that it was “sadly true”.

I agree.
Lack of winning mentality. Has been for years— Steve Smith (@hornchurchammer) June 1, 2020
He was so good the club seemed afraid to upset him. They maybe could’ve built on his talent but I think he’s trying to rewrite history. He downed tools after his performances for France where he and most pundits concluded he was too good for Irons.

Sadly true.

Struggling to disagree with this and if you analyse it a bit it shows we don’t have a winning mentality.
