West Ham’s difficult start to the season continued on Wednesday evening as the Hammers were knocked out of the EFL Cup by London rivals Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a 3-1 victory at the London Stadium following a brace from Heung-Min Son and Fernando Llorente’s effort, which meant that Lucas Perez’s second-half goal was merely a consolation.
The defeat extended West Ham’s winless streak to four matches across all competitions and raises further pressure on a side that have won just two of 10 Premier League matches this term, although the Hammers have admittedly faced tough fixtures.
Speaking after last night’s defeat, Manuel Pellegrini stated that his side need to be better in their defensive work and must be calmer in the opposing box but these comments did not go down well with a section of fans who believe they have heard it all before.
We have gathered some of the best reactions below.
100 million spent still can't defend still can't score goals still have lazy disinterested players same old West ham

You don’t mind losing to a better team, even their 2nd team is better than our first, that’s clear. It’s a complete lack of interest and effort by our players. Something is fundamentally wrong with our club #WHUFC #WHUTOT

We were poor tonight, any half decent side would have beaten us tonight. Another season of disappointment ahead I think.
