It often seems as though West Ham are going in for everyone this transfer window, with all the players who have been linked.
However, a left back is unlikely to be on this list of recruited players anytime soon, as ExWHUEmployee has confirmed the position is not a priority for the Hammers:
At the moment that’s not a priority position https://t.co/UUjD8LdzXu

This has led to debate among the fanbase as to whether it should be a higher priority – some point to the side conceding 55 goals last season as a reason for strengthening, while others have indicated that there are more important areas to strengthen.
There was an inconsistency in the play of both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku last campaign, which saw them struggle to maintain their place in the side – starting 18 and 19 games respectively.
In a way, this debate arising has highlighted that while this transfer window has been exciting so far, there is still a long way to go until the Hammers’ business should be considered as finished, with numerous holes still remaining in the squad.
Other areas many fans feel should be considered as the highest priority is getting strikers and a central midfielder.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the announcement, including posts from conflicted West Ham fans, can be seen below:
I hope this changes personally. I think it’s definitely our weakest position, we should be looking to strengthen there before looking at Gomez imo.

Agree, all the best sides have solid fullbacks. Its our weakest 2 positions

This is a little maddening I’ll be honest. We shipped so many goals and it doesn’t seem like upgrading any defensive position is a priority. How can he think we’re fine on both after we’ve been so inconsistent?

I would like someone to tell me who we can get at LB that is not wanted or playing for a bigger club thats better? All want want want but no names mentioned! I don’t believe we are that bad off at LB as some seem to think.

Thought Arthur had a decent end to the season tbf so for now I’d stick with him a 20 goal striker more a priority I would of thought lol

I think Arthur should play left wing back he’s rapid going forward
