Robert Snodgrass praises West Ham’s performance against Brighton

Robert Snodgrass has praised West Ham’s weekend performance against Brighton following a 1-1 draw with the Seagulls.

The Scottish international started the game at the Amex Stadium that saw the Hammers grind out a draw against Graham Potter’s side after Javier Hernandez opened the scoring in the second half before a Leandro Trossard equaliser ensured the points were shared on the south coast.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website following the game, Snodgrass said: “Both teams tried to win the game, and fair play to them, it’s a different sort of Brighton we’re setting this season. They’re trying to play from the back, and when you have three tall lads at the back you don’t usually see that.

“We adapted to it (after) the first half and I thought we did well after half time. Obviously, we took the lead, we then conceded a goal, which we’ll take a look at. We probably did need more going forward (than we showed in the first half) and that’s why the manager went with two up top in the second half.

The former Hull City winger also spoke about what Manuel Pellegrini told him and the rest of the squad to do going into the second half. Snodgrass said: “We caused them more problems after that. The manager wasn’t happy with our forward play, he changed things and that’s what top managers do.

“We had to have a reaction from last week. On another day we could have won the game – I had a chance towards the end, (Michail) Antonio too, but it’s football. You prepare throughout the week to try and get three points. Today it wasn’t, but we got a point on the board which is good for us.”

West Ham next travel away to Watford, who are yet to pick up a single point this season after two defeats in their first few games.
