Revealed: West Ham face tough schedule as Premier League fixtures are announced

|

The day we have all been waiting for this summer has finally arrived – West Ham United’s fixture schedule for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign has been announced.

We might have had a poor start to the season last year but playing the top six sides (barring Manchester City) inside our first nine games was always going to be difficult despite having a new squad and a new manager at the helm.

However, we should be better placed this time around to do a lot better than we did and should be in a better position to grab all three points before our fifth match of the campaign – especially with the likes of Pablo Fornals expected to be in the side (Guardian).

But, the 2019/20 fixture list, which you can view in full here, has been horrible to us – admittedly, there are no easy games in the Premier League – with an opening match at the London Stadium to Premier League champions Manchester City – could not have been any worse! Although, we do start to get a run of winnable games shortly after.

Boxing Day is a fixture that we always keep our eyes on and West Ham will be involved in a London Derby contest as we take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park as we continue to have to travel because of an alleged agreement with Westfield shopping centre – Stratford is one hell of a busy place around Christmas!

New Year’s Day will see us take on Bournemouth at home, whilst we round off the campaign against newly promoted Aston Villa, hopefully, with a place in the top seven at the end of it all.

The London Derbies are always of interest and those dates will also be circled in calendars, with our matches against Arsenal taking place on 7 December (home) and 7 March (away); Chelsea on 30 November (away) and 4 April (home), Crystal Palace on 5 October (home) and Boxing Day (away) and Tottenham Hotspur taking place on 23 November (home) and 21 March (away).

The fixture list has not been too kind to us and we will have a number of spells where we face some of our toughest opponents.

November sees back-to-back matches against Tottenham and Chelsea, whilst December starts with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal in a four-game period.

Back-to-back away games against Liverpool and Man City in February are followed by a tough five-game spell of Arsenal, Wolves, Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle United throughout March and April.

It’s going to be one tough old season!
