Report: West Ham’s bid for 11-goal striker rejected as Bilic offered two men plus cash

|

West Ham United are thought to have had an opening offer for West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon rejected.

According to a report by the Daily Star, the Hammers were believed to have offered the Baggies £10million cash plus Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill in exchange for their Venezuelan forward.

Rondon is expected to leave the Championship outfit whilst the two West Ham men hardly have a future at the London Stadium.

Byram – a man who Slaven Bilic will know well – has not hit the heights many thought he would and has spent the last season out on loan with Nottingham Forest.

The same can easily be said about Hugill (who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough) as there are still a number of people questioning why on earth David Moyes splashed the cash on a forward that has only played 22 minutes of football for us in his first season at the club (Transfermarkt).

West Ham may well have tried to jump the queue for the South American with this approach following the developments at Newcastle United as Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of his contract this week.

We are in need of a striker as we will see Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez leave us in the coming days whilst Javier Hernandez also looks set to depart this summer provided a club is found willing to take him on.

Our long-running transfer pursuit regarding Maxi Gomez does not appear to be ending any time soon, so signing Rondon may be a valuable piece of business for us as he proved last season just how effective he can be in the Premier League – he netted 11 goals and provided seven assists in his 32 top-flight appearances for the Magpies (Transfermarkt).

Manuel Pellegrini already knows the forward well from their time together at Malaga a number of years ago, whilst the 29-year-old would not have any problem fitting into the system the manager employs at the London Stadium either.

Whether West Ham decide to try and up their bid or look to include other players to try and tempt West Brom into a deal remains to be seen, however, we would not be surprised if this was the only attempt that was made.
