Report: West Ham to go head to head with Arsenal for 24 y/o Championship trickster

|

West Ham United look set to go head to head with Arsenal for the signature of the Brentford winger Said Benrahma, according to reports.

The Algeria international is having an impressive campaign for the Championship side, having scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 34 appearances in England’s second-tier.

From those outings, he has averaged 3.1 dribbles, 2.2 key passes and 3.7 shots per game (as per Whoscored), which leaves no surprises as to why the Gunners and the Blues are interested in him.

The Hammers, along with Arsenal and Chelsea, all want to secure the services of the 24-year-old in the summer, according to Foot Mercato, and could be available for £20m.

Would you bring Said Benrahma to West Ham?

Yes

No

No

However, I have vast reservations about this. Unfortunately, it seems to be yet another hint that we are somewhat preparing for the inevitable, which is relegation to the Championship.

While this is a possibility, why should we be forced to suffer as a fanbase once more? Firstly it was Hugill, now it is Benrahma. With all respect, he is a good player and I’m sure he will go on to do good things in the game if he keeps his head down.

My point is, we should be aiming for higher. It was only four years ago that we finished in the Europa League places and some of the football we was playing was staggering.

It is another example that our wretched owners are not willing to spend the big bucks on the big players and would rather go for the bargain bucket options. Yet another disappointing moment.

If we are going to go down this route, we have talented players already at the club in the form of Grady Diangana, a much more sensible option and one that I think should be prioritised over this sort of signing.
