Report: West Ham set to make imminent offer for long-term target

|

We must surely be in transfer window season if West Ham United continue to be linked with a move for Gary Medel.

The Besiktas midfielder has been linked with a move to the London Stadium ever since last winter and those claims continue to stick around as the months go by.

Milliyet started with the claims back in November, the Daily Mail stated that we were close to agreeing to a move with Besiktas for him in January whilst Super Haber also made the same remarks in April.

And, now that Chile have been knocked out of the Copa America, it seems those rumours have intensified once again and a deal to bring Medel to West Ham looks to be on (again).

According to claims from Turkish outlet Fanatik (via Sport Witness), we are set to make an offer for him in the coming days as officials are set to make the trip to Istanbul to try and thrash out a deal for the experienced international.

It had been previously claimed that Manuel Pellegrini wants his compatriot to join him at the London Stadium and has told the board to do everything they can to sign him.

We have written in a previous article here on Vital West Ham that we do not feel Medel is the answer to what the club needs this summer, however, it seems as though the Irons are determined to make the ex-Cardiff City man theirs.

We know we should tighten up the midfield and stop opposition attackers from finding the back of the net (55 goals conceded is a figure that needs to be reduced going forward), however, surely it is only likely the 31-year-old would be a back-up with the likes of Declan Rice excelling in the first-team, whilst Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez are both waiting to make their returns to the side.

Whether there is any truth in the report remains to be seen, however, with Medel’s name being linked with West Ham for the best part of a year, it would not be a surprise to see him turning out in the Claret and Blue in the upcoming Premier League season.
