Report: West Ham offered opportunity to sign £22.5M-rated midfielder earlier this summer; deal looks unlikely

West Ham United were offered the chance to sign Fulham’s Jean-Micheal Seri this summer, according to an exclusive report by Sports Witness.

It is claimed the Championship side handed the Hammers the opportunity to purchase the midfielder last month, however, we appear to have opted against a deal as nothing has happened since then.

And, it must be said, a move looks highly unlikely to happen now as well.

Manuel Pellegrini has already acquired Pablo Fornals to strengthen the midfield options he has, whilst West Ham are also believed to be looking at other possible targets.

Joan Jordan was heavily touted at one point last month, with it understood that we had submitted a proposal for him to join us before he opted to remain in Spain and make the switch from Eibar to Sevilla.

Seri’s Ivory Coast international team-mate, Franck Kessie, is another individual that has been linked recently with a move to the London Stadium by Calciomercato and is a player we at Vital West Ham believe could be an excellent fit in Pellegrini’s squad.

Also, whether the 27-year-old would be a solid acquisition might be debatable after a rather poor 12 months in English football.

Valued at £22.5million by Transfermarkt, his stats suggest that he was rather mediocre last year – although we admit that might have been down to the difficult season Fulham had as a whole.

According to the data collected by WhoScored, Seri managed to average just 1.3 tackles per game in his 32 Premier League appearances, with 1 interception per match. When you compare that to Declan Rice’s 2.9 tackles and 1.6 interceptions, it is quite easy to see how poor those figures are.

Attacking wise, the Ivorian was not that much better either as he averaged just 0.6 shots per game, 1.8 key passes and completing 87% of his passes (WhoScored).

West Ham have probably done themselves a favour by not acting on the alleged opportunity we had to sign Seri this summer.
