West Ham United will look to continue their pursuit for the Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to reports in Italy.

The 24-year-old recently moved to the Serie A side from the Argentinian giants Boca Juniors for €18m (£16m) after months of tense negotiations last summer and was mobbed by fans on his arrival for his medical.

Nandez is getting plenty of game time for Isolani but is not making as much of a contribution than the Uruguay international would have liked.

According to Centotrenturo, the Hammers were keen on signing the midfielder and had a loan offer rejected back in January for his services. But this has not detracted David Moyes’ interest in the player.

Would you bring Nahitan Nandez to West Ham?

No

The report adds that Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini promised a new contract for Nandez, which includes a release clause of €38m (£33.8m), which is a big price to pay considering what he has achieved this season.

Nandez has had a slow start on the island of Sardinia, having only scored one goal and provided three assists in 20 starts and three appearances from the bench.

His side currently sit 12th in Serie A, seven points above the relegation zone with 13 games left to play. His side are far from safe of relegation at this stage of the season.

Despite his agent Pablo Bentancur showering Nandez with praise, the Uruguayan has not been all that convincing. In the domestic league, he has managed to average 0.9 key passes per game, 0.9 long balls, 1.7 tackles and pass success rate of just 78.9%.

With all due respect, this is not particularly impressive, which bodes the question as to why Moyes is still so keen on him? Personally, it’s a no from me.
