Report: UCL winning manager praises ‘wonderful’ West Ham international

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dubbed West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass “a wonderful player” after being asked about the Scottish national team.

Speaking to MailSport via The Daily Record, the 2018/19 Champions League-winning coach signalled out the Hammers winger as one of Scotland’s best players when asked if there were more good players in the Steve Clarke’s national team aside from Andy Robertson, who has become one of Liverpool’s most important players in the past two seasons.

Klopp said: “He (Robertson) doesn’t have to though (win a game on his own) because you have other good guys. John McGinn, what a super player he is, Robert Snodgrass, a wonderful player, Scott McTominay has great potential. So let them play and let the manager have time to create a style of play, a Scottish style.”

Although Snodgrass remains one of Scotland’s most important players on the international stage with the winger starting the home nation’s recent 4-0 loss to Belgium, the 32-year-old attacker has been an increasingly frustrating figure in east London ever since his move to the club from Hull City in the winter of 2017.

As numbers from Transfermarkt show, the Scottish winger has only managed four goals and 11 assists for the Hammers in nearly 60 games for the club across three seasons, with Snodgrass yet to contribute to a goal this campaign in the four games the attacker has featured in.

The former Championship winger has also spent a season out on loan at Aston Villa during his time with the Hammers, who Manuel Pellegrini’s side faced off against last night in the Premier League.

Snodgrass might be seen as a key player for Scotland, but for many West Ham fans, the veteran attacker has largely been seen as an underwhelming figure for the club after three seasons representing the claret and blue.
