Report: Clubs circle for £10.8m-rated West Ham international who can walk for cheap

Three MLS clubs have their eyes set on Mexican international Javier Hernandez at a cut-price fee in the January transfer window.

Football Insider report that the West Ham striker is not expected to extend his current deal with the club and that the east London side are braced for bids of up to £4m for the attacker who only joined the Hammers two years ago.

With a weekly wage of £140,000, it is understandable as to why the Hammers are keen on offloading Hernandez in the next transfer window despite the former Manchester United striker scoring in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Brighton last weekend.

Since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen for a £16m, Hernandez, who has a Transfermarkt valuation of £10.8m, has been underwhelming for the east London side, scoring just 16 goals as stats from Transfermarkt show, and with the Mexican attacker turning 31 this summer, a move back to North America could make sense for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.

Indeed, the success of international teammate Carlos Vela in MLS this year with LAFC and the constant speculation from the US media of Hernandez making a move to America at some point in his career could mean that now is the time for the West Ham striker to make the permanent trip back across the Atlantic.

Although MLS teams have seen a dramatic change in direction as to who clubs spend big money on, with the likes of Atlanta United and the aforementioned LAFC spending over $10m+ on players under the age of 25, Hernandez’s star value in Mexico and Latin America as a whole will make him a lucrative acquisition for any American club.

With one of the largest weekly wages in the West Ham squad as well, a move to MLS could be a win-win for all parties involved.
