The news that broke, relating to Winston Reid picking up an ankle injury, didn`t go down too well last week.

Reid has been a rock at the heart of our defence this season and it appears that the New Zealand international could be side-lined for quite a while.

Already destined to miss New Zealand`s World Cup play-off against Mexico, a brace of fixtures New Zealand hope will see them make the finals in Brazil next summer, it is being reported that Reid could be out of contention for a place in the West Ham starting eleven for as long as ten weeks.

Obviously, Sam Allardyce tried to put a positive slant on the news when pushed on the subject, remarking to the media,

“I can`t say we missed him because James Tomkins and James Collins were very good.”

“They did not deserve to lose three goals against them.”

They probably didn`t but if one or, god forbid, both get injured before Reid is fit again, we`ll be in trouble!
