Pundit hits the nail on the head in his description of impressive West Ham player – opinion

|

Declan Rice is undeniably our most impressive and most improved player this season. Since emerging on the scene earlier this season, he’s emerged as one of the Premier League’s best young players, and he’s become indispensable under Manuel Pellegrini.

Still, though, some aren’t quite aware of what he can do. He’s still largely seen as just a defensive midfielder, and that only tells half the story.

However, fortunately, pundit Chris Sutton has been discussing the midfielder, and he’s detailed exactly what Rice offers both for West Ham and, now, for England.

Discussing him following his call-up to the England national team, Sutton wrote: ‘Rice reads the game superbly, snuffing out danger and winning the ball back for his team…I’ve been impressed by his range of passing, too.’

He continued: ‘Going forward, Rice is not afraid to shoot while his aerial ability makes him a threat at set-pieces. All he lacks is experience but for Southgate, if you’re good enough then you’re old enough.’

Of course, Rice is a talented defensive player, and he’s very capable when facing his own goal and breaking up play. However, he offers so much more than that. He’s quick on the ball and he’s often at the heart of everything we do moving forward, and that’s what has made him so indispensable.

Truthfully, there’s nothing that he can’t do, and we’re just glad that other people are recognising that. He deserves all the praise that he’s getting, and hopefully that will be reflected with a starting role for England against the Czech Republic.
